Scubaspa Yang is the sister ship of Scubaspa Yin: a 50-metre liveaboard built in 2014 and refitted in 2022, carrying up to 36 guests in 17 cabins, with a cap of 26 divers. The idea is simple. Divers dive, everyone else gets a full spa and wellness programme, and nobody spends the week waiting for the others. The spa covers around 300 square metres, with treatment rooms and a team of therapists. There's also an outdoor Jacuzzi, a gym, a wellness deck for yoga, and open-air dining. Kayaks and paddleboards are on board, and trips include island visits and a beach barbecue dinner. Diving is done from a dedicated 20-metre dhoni that acts as a mobile dive centre. Nitrox is available, the boat supports sidemount, and courses can be arranged for newer divers. Cabins run from lower-deck Sea Star cabins to Dolphin and Manta suites on the main deck, with queen beds or twin layouts. In the Maldives, most dives are drifts along channels and reef edges, with grey reef sharks, eagle rays, turtles and schools of fish. Mantas visit cleaning stations all year, with the biggest numbers in the west between May and November. Scubaspa Yang works well for couples with one diver, honeymooners, solo travellers who want a social boat, and anyone who wants to finish a dive day with a massage.

Classic North gave us exactly what we wanted from a return trip to Maldives. It was familiar enough that we knew what type of holiday to expect, but different enough that it didn't feel like we were repeating ourselves. I'd probably choose another Dharavandhoo departure again.

I didn't expect to enjoy travelling between areas so much. Sitting outside while the boat moves, coffee in hand and literally nothing you're supposed to do is a very underrated part of these holidays. ☕

One week felt right for us. There was enough time to enjoy the northern itinerary properly without getting exhausted by the end.

Surface intervals became extremely quiet by the middle of the trip. Half the guests were sleeping, the rest were editing photos or staring at the ocean pretending they weren't also tired.
