Małgorzata thought liveaboards were for older divers, then spent a week on one in Egypt.

Maldives Aggressor II is a 41-metre liveaboard built in 2006 and refitted in 2017, with 11 staterooms for up to 22 guests. There's one ocean-view suite with a queen bed on the main deck, four deluxe staterooms on the upper deck that switch between twin and double, and six twin cabins below. Every room has its own bathroom, climate control, a hairdryer and a TV. The Aggressor fleet is known for organised diving, and this boat is no exception. You get a large swim platform, personal gear lockers, nitrox fills, rinse tanks, freshwater showers and a three-tier camera table with low-pressure air hoses, which photographers will appreciate. Inside, a large air-conditioned lounge doubles as the dining room, with American and local food. Wine and beer are included with meals. Outside, the partly covered sundeck has a Jacuzzi, a bar and loungers. The boat dives the Maldives year-round. Expect channel drifts with grey reef sharks, eagle rays and schooling fish, manta cleaning stations, and whale shark searches along South Ari. December to April generally gives the calmest conditions, while the wetter months bring more plankton and more mantas to the western atolls. It suits experienced divers and photographers who like a predictable, well-drilled routine, and travellers who already know and trust the Aggressor brand.

Best of Maldives is probably what I would suggest to somebody who says “I want to try Maldives but I don't know which route.” You get a full week to understand the rhythm of a liveaboard without building the whole trip around one specific wildlife encounter. Easy trip, good group atmosphere and I would happily repeat it. 🐠
What I liked is how little you need to organise once you're actually onboard. No hotel transfers every day, no packing again, no finding restaurants. Your room just travels with you and somewhere new appears outside in the morning.
First evening I thought seven nights sounded long. By the last evening everyone was saying exactly the opposite.
Our dive club was interested in the group-only dates because being able to take a large part of the boat makes planning much easier. Everyone already knows each other, so the atmosphere starts immediately.
