Seafari Explorer II is a 42-metre liveaboard launched in 2024, with 14 cabins for up to 28 guests. Six double-or-twin cabins and two single cabins are on the lower deck, and six double cabins sit on the upper deck. The single cabins are worth knowing about: solo divers can have their own space without paying for a full double. Nitrox is included for certified divers, and Wi-Fi works on board. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are there for surface intervals, and island visits usually end with a beach barbecue. The boat runs at around 12 knots, which matters in the Maldives, where moving between atolls between dives is part of the routine. The diving itself is mostly drift diving in channels: sharks and eagle rays at the channel mouths on the incoming current, mantas at cleaning stations, and the chance of whale sharks along South Ari. December to April is generally the calmest period, and the wetter season from May to November brings the biggest manta gatherings on the western atolls. You'll get more out of a Maldives week with Advanced Open Water and some recent current experience, though the guides adapt sites to the group. Seafari Explorer II suits solo divers, small groups of friends and couples who want a new, comfortable boat without paying for suites. Full-boat charters are also possible.

Seafari Explorer II isn't trying to be a luxury hotel, and that was fine with me. It was spacious enough, the diving was well organised and the group atmosphere felt natural. I would book it again, particularly for one of the longer north or south itineraries where the extra days allow more flexibility.
My favourite part was sitting at the outdoor bar after diving, still slightly salty, watching the sunset while everyone argued about what species of shark they had seen.
Great local crew. They were quiet, hardworking and somehow always one step ahead of us.
The longer itinerary suited me because I hate feeling rushed. We could revisit an area or change sites when conditions weren't right, rather than sailing away just because the printed schedule said so.
