Princess Maani is a 42-metre (134-foot) liveaboard built in 2024 specifically for diving in the Maldives. She takes up to 28 guests in 14 cabins, and every cabin converts between a double and twin beds: six standard superior cabins on the lower deck, and eight deluxe suites split between the main and upper decks. A crew of 17 includes five dive guides, so groups in the water stay small. Nitrox is included for certified divers. Meals are buffet-style, prepared by a European chef, and there's a cocktail bar for the evenings. The upper deck is where people spend their surface intervals: two Jacuzzis, sunbeds and plenty of shade. Kayaks and paddleboards are on board, and island stops usually include a beach barbecue. Diving in the Maldives means channels. You'll drift through passes on the incoming tide with grey reef sharks, eagle rays and schooling fish, visit manta cleaning stations, and have a chance of whale sharks around South Ari. Further south, the atolls are quieter and Fuvahmulah is known for tiger sharks. Advanced Open Water and some current experience are a good baseline. Princess Maani suits couples and groups who want a new boat with resort-level comfort, and divers who like knowing the guide-to-diver ratio is in their favour.

Princess Maani manages to combine comfort with itineraries that are genuinely different from each other. Central Atolls is the classic introduction, Manta Madness is seasonal, Northern Highlights rewards guests who want a longer trip, and Wild Deep South is a much more demanding adventure. I'd happily use the same boat again and choose a completely different route.
Ten out of ten for the crew. Also ten out of ten for whoever kept bringing snacks.
The guides communicated very well. When conditions changed, we heard about it early rather than after everyone had already put on a wetsuit.
I skipped one dive and spent the afternoon alone on deck. Zero regrets. The boat is comfortable enough that missing a dive doesn't feel like wasting the day.
