White Pearl is one of the largest liveaboards in the Maldives: 56 metres long, built in 2020, with just 13 cabins for 26 guests. That works out to a lot of deck per diver, and with four to six dive guides on board, the groups in the water stay small. The cabins are spread over two decks. On the main deck there's a master suite and two junior suites with double beds; the upper deck has ten deluxe cabins with either twin or double beds. Between dives you have a spa room, a 7-metre Jacuzzi deck, a gym, a water slide, kayaks and paddleboards, and Starlink Wi-Fi so you can stay in touch from the atolls. Maldives diving is all about channels. Dives are timed to the incoming current, when reef sharks, eagle rays and schools of jacks line up at the channel mouth, and mantas visit cleaning stations on the reef edges. Between December and April the east side of the atolls has the clearest water; from May to November the mantas move west, and Baa Atoll's Hanifaru Bay sees its famous feeding aggregations. Nitrox is available for certified divers and the boat supports sidemount. White Pearl works well for couples where only one partner dives, for families, and for groups who want genuine comfort without cutting down the dive plan. It's also available as a full charter for private groups.

By the end, all the luxury features almost became normal. Nobody cared about dressing nicely anymore, everyone was barefoot and half the group was slightly sunburned. But I definitely noticed the comfort when I came back from a long day and could sit in the Jacuzzi, eat something and then sleep in a proper spacious room. White Pearl is the type of boat I'd recommend when you want a liveaboard but your partner hears “liveaboard” and imagines sleeping in a cupboard. 😅
There was always somewhere quiet to go when I didn't feel social. On some smaller boats you basically have the choice of your cabin or the same table as everybody else, but White Pearl is completely different.
What I liked most is that White Pearl doesn't force everybody into the same type of holiday. A serious diver can have their schedule, someone who wants a more relaxed Maldives trip can still enjoy the boat, and couples with different interests don't have to compromise too much. That makes it pretty easy for groups.
Spa treatment after several days in the water is dangerous because once you do it once, you suddenly think you need it every day.
