JP Marine is a no-fuss dive boat built for the southern Red Sea: 37 metres long, built in 2014, with 14 twin cabins for 28 guests. It isn't a floating hotel, and it doesn't try to be. You get a cosy salon, a spacious dive deck, open and shaded sun decks and two bars, which is plenty of space to rest between three or four dives a day. No guest cabin sits next to the engine room, and guests consistently rate the crew as the best part of the boat. The boat is based in Marsa Alam, close to the southern marine parks. That's the side of the Red Sea for oceanic whitetips and hammerheads at Brothers and Daedalus, dolphins and dugongs, and the healthy hard corals of St John's, Fury Shoal and Zabargad. Oceanic whitetips are most reliable from October to December; hammerheads gather at Daedalus in early summer. Expect current and blue-water entries on the offshore reefs. The boat asks for at least 20 logged dives, and Egyptian rules for Brothers and Daedalus usually mean Advanced Open Water and around 50 dives. Dives in shark areas follow HEPCA and CDWS rules. Nitrox and sidemount are available, and Wi-Fi works when the boat is in coverage. Cabins are twins, so solo divers share. It suits divers with some experience who want the southern Red Sea on a sensible budget, and first-timers who want to build up to it with the right route.

JP Marine gave us a complete southern Red Sea experience without pretending that wildlife would appear on demand. Some dives were spent looking into the blue, while others were memorable because of the reef, coral and underwater landscape. The guides planned according to current and conditions, the crew kept the operation running smoothly, and the atmosphere remained friendly throughout the week.
Very enjoyable liveaboard for solo travellers and small groups. The daily routine settled quickly, and nothing felt unnecessarily complicated.
Conditions changed during the trip, and one planned site had to be adjusted. The team explained the reason clearly and selected another dive rather than leaving guests wondering what was happening. That honest communication made a good impression.
The boat has an unpretentious atmosphere that suited me perfectly. Nobody cared about dressing up or formal service. The week was about diving, eating, relaxing on deck and getting enough sleep before the next briefing.
