Sea Serpent Excellence is a 36-metre (118 ft) wooden liveaboard built in 2008 and completely redesigned in a major 2020 refit. She mixes traditional boatbuilding with a fresh, modern interior. Up to 24 guests share 12 air-conditioned, en-suite cabins: eight twins on the lower deck, and one twin plus three doubles on the upper deck. The hull was built for speed and stability, which helps on longer crossings. Inside there's a spacious main salon; outside, a shaded deck and a large sun deck. The dive deck is generous, nitrox is free for certified divers, Wi-Fi is complimentary, and the boat supports sidemount. Open Water divers are welcome, and courses can be arranged. The Sea Serpent fleet knows both halves of the Red Sea. In the north, the reefs of Ras Mohammed and Tiran and the Thistlegorm and Abu Nuhas wrecks are a good first liveaboard. The south is wilder. Fury Shoal has shallow coral gardens and dolphins, St John's is known for caves and swim-throughs, and Rocky Island and Zabargad have sheer walls with a good chance of sharks. The offshore parks, such as the Brothers and Daedalus, usually need Advanced Open Water and around 50 logged dives. Sea Serpent Excellence suits divers who like the feel of a wooden boat but want modern cabins, and groups who prefer a mid-size boat with a well-known operator.
