Tiare worked beautifully for the longer itinerary because the small group and traditional boat made everything feel more personal. The route through Banda Sea, Forgotten Islands and Alor already feels adventurous, but doing it on a Phinisi added another layer to the experience. We came home tired, slightly confused about the day of the week and already discussing another long Indonesia trip. 🌊
By day ten I had absolutely no idea what date it was. I consider that successful vacation.
The traditional Phinisi style mattered to me. If I'm travelling through remote Indonesia, I want the boat itself to feel connected to the place instead of looking like a generic hotel.
Twelve nights is enough time that the boat genuinely starts feeling like home. You stop looking for your cabin number and just walk there without thinking.
