Huvadhoo, Fuvahmulah & Addu: Deep South Liveaboards

Book Liveaboards →

The Deep South is the far end of the Maldives, close to the equator and far from the busy central atolls. You dive the deep channels of Huvadhoo, one of the largest atolls in the world, the tiger sharks of Fuvahmulah, and the mantas and WWII wreck of Addu. Fewer boats come this far, and the routes are longer.

Most Deep South trips run from January to April, during the calmer northeast monsoon. Many routes are one-way, starting in Malé and ending in Gan (Addu) or Kooddoo (Huvadhoo), so check your flights. Water stays around 28–30°C. Sightings are never guaranteed.

FAQ

Deep South Maldives Questions

When is the best time for the Deep South?
Most trips run from January to April, during the calmer northeast monsoon. Outside those months, few boats go this far south.
What experience do I need?
Advanced Open Water and solid experience in current. The Huvadhoo channels can be strong. Send us your dive count and we’ll check with the boat.
Where do Deep South trips start and end?
Many are one-way between Malé and Gan (Addu), or loops between Kooddoo (Huvadhoo) and Gan. Both have domestic airports. We confirm the ports and flights for your dates.
Do Deep South trips stop at Fuvahmulah?
Most do, since it sits between Huvadhoo and Addu. Your boat plans the tiger shark dives around the weather. For more dives there, consider a resort on the island.
What is the British Loyalty?
A British tanker sunk in Addu lagoon during the Second World War. It now sits upright, covered in coral, and is one of the best-known wrecks in the Maldives.
How long are the trips?
From 7 nights for a one-way route up to about 14 nights for the longest expeditions.
