Fuvahmulah’s tiger shark dives run with trained shark-safety guides, low guide-to-diver ratios, and a strict protocol where bait is placed under rocks on the seabed rather than handed out, with guides retreating during any feeding. The local dive community has an established safety record, though tiger sharks are large predators and divers should follow every briefing point exactly.
Do you need Advanced Open Water to dive Fuvahmulah?
Open Water is enough for Tiger Harbour at 8-10m. For thresher sharks, hammerheads and the outer wall, AOWD or Deep and Currents specialties are the practical minimum, since those sites run deeper and with stronger current.
When is the best time to see hammerhead sharks in Fuvahmulah?
December to April is the strongest window, with sightings most likely around the new moon and full moon when cooler water pushes onto the outer wall. Hammerheads are the least predictable of Fuvahmulah’s five signature species.
Can you drink alcohol on Fuvahmulah?
No — Fuvahmulah is a local Muslim island and alcohol isn’t sold or permitted there. Resort islands and liveaboards elsewhere in the Maldives do serve alcohol.
