The Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone are the offshore marine parks of Egypt, and divers call the route BDE. These are small reefs in open sea, with steep walls, strong current and the Red Sea’s best chance of big sharks. Only liveaboards can take you there.

FAQ

Brothers Islands Liveaboard Questions

Advanced Open Water and about 50 logged dives. The walls are deep, the current can be strong, and most dives start from a zodiac. Send us your certification and dive count, and we’ll check before you book.
When is the best time to dive the Brothers?
The season runs June to November. Oceanic whitetips are most active in autumn, especially October and November. Hammerheads are most likely in early summer.
What sharks can I see on a BDE trip?
Oceanic whitetips, scalloped hammerheads, thresher sharks and grey reef sharks, plus silky sharks on some trips. Sightings are never guaranteed, since this is open sea.
Are there night dives at the Brothers?
No. Night dives are not allowed inside the offshore marine parks. Some boats run a night dive on a coastal reef before or after the crossing.
Can I dive Elphinstone without a liveaboard?
Yes. Elphinstone is close to Marsa Alam, and resorts like The Oasis run boat trips there. The Brothers and Daedalus are only reachable by liveaboard.
How long are BDE trips, and where do they leave from?
Most trips are 7 nights and leave from Hurghada or Port Ghalib near Marsa Alam. Fly into Hurghada (HRG) or Marsa Alam (RMF). We confirm the port and transfer for your dates.
