What it’s actually like
Fuvahmulah Central Dive Center is a PADI 5-star operation built for volume — it hosts 60+ divers and runs as a partner to its own hotel, with the island’s main Tiger Shark site rated Open Water. That’s a lower entry barrier than some other Fuvahmulah operators, making it a fit for divers who want tiger shark encounters without an Advanced Open Water requirement, plus PADI specialty courses (Sidemount, Deep Diver, Rescue) for those who want to upskill on the same trip.

Where you’ll dive
The island’s most popular site — each dive centre gets a scheduled hour here to avoid crowding. Touching the sharks is strictly prohibited and enforced by guides.
A reef drop-off at the island’s southern point, 10–15m to the edge, with the widest range of pelagics on the island — GTs, tuna, barracuda, reef sharks, and regular tiger and thresher shark sightings. A drift dive best suited to experienced divers.
Reef starts at 5–7m and slopes to cleaning stations at 18–30m, where mantas and thresher sharks are regularly seen. Healthy coral and a steady patrol of reef predators throughout.
When to go
★ Peak = best visibility + marine life · Unmarked = good, worth going (tiger sharks present year-round either way)
Jan–Apr: Whale sharks (Jan–May) overlap with oceanic manta season building from March. Tiger sharks present throughout.
May–Jul: Oceanic manta season tails off in May; thresher sharks appear from mid-April and continue through the rest of the year. Tiger sharks present throughout.
Oct–Dec: Peak hammerhead season (Sep–Dec) alongside continuing thresher sightings. Tiger sharks present throughout.

Kimbunga · Narva, Estonia · Family · Dec 2025
★★★★★ — Praised the organization and safety checks before every dive, with divers split into logical groups. Singled out guide Nikita’s marine-biology knowledge, and noted the island suits more experienced divers best.
maria m · Encinitas, California · Friends · Dec 2025
★★★★★ — First Maldives dive trip and one of the best vacations they’d had. Domestic travel was arranged for them, briefings were appreciated before each dive, and the tiger sharks were “huge and beautiful.”
Juana B · Couple · Aug 2025
★★★★★ — The manager helped rebook a changed return flight at short notice. Described the hotel as comfortable and air-conditioned, and felt safe diving with tiger sharks while also spotting thresher sharks and turtles.

Staying on a liveaboard instead
A liveaboard puts you closer to multiple dive sites without a daily boat commute — useful if you’re combining Fuvahmulah with other Maldives atolls. It trades hotel comforts like Fuvahmulah Central Hotel’s rooms for more time in the water each day.
