FAQ

Questions, answered

What certification do I need to dive in Fuvahmulah?
Advanced Open Water is strongly preferred — the sites are deep with moderate-to-strong currents. If you’re not yet AOW certified, the dive centre offers the course on-site from $320, or a Scuba Diver Upgrade from $200.
Are tiger shark sightings guaranteed?
No sighting with wild animals is ever 100% guaranteed, but Pelagic Divers report tiger sharks on 99.9% of dives at Tiger Harbour, year-round.
Is tiger shark diving safe?
All guides are trained shark-safety divers and the centre has a zero-incident record to date. You’ll get a full safety briefing before your first tiger shark dive.
What’s a typical dive day like?
Three boat dives a day — typically deep, reef, and tiger shark — with the boat returning to harbour between dives. You can relax at the dive centre’s café during surface intervals.
Can I bring my own gear, or rent on-site?
Either works. Rental is $5 per item per dive (regulator, BCD, wetsuit, computer, tank) or $30/day for a full set.
How do I get to Fuvahmulah?
Fly into Malé (MLE), then take a short domestic flight to Fuvahmulah (FVM). Multi-night packages include the domestic flights and all airport/dive transfers.
What extra costs should I budget for?
Equipment rental if you don’t bring your own, a $20/night single room supplement if travelling solo, and credit card/bank transfer fees. Dive insurance is mandatory and not included.
Do I need a visa?
No advance visa is required — almost all nationalities receive a free 30-day visa on arrival. You’ll need a valid passport, return ticket and confirmed accommodation, plus the online IMUGA declaration within 96 hours of arrival.
What’s included in the dive packages?
Accommodation at Apex Fuvahmulah, meals (plan depends on package), 2-way domestic flights between Malé and Fuvahmulah, airport transfers, and daily transfers between your hotel and the dive centre.
What should I know about local customs?
Fuvahmulah is a conservative Muslim community — modest dress is expected off the boat, alcohol isn’t available on the island, and visitors should be mindful during Ramazan.

Liveaboard alternative

Staying on a liveaboard instead

A liveaboard puts you closer to multiple dive sites without a daily boat commute — useful if you’re combining Fuvahmulah with other Maldives atolls. It trades land-based comforts like Apex Fuvahmulah’s rooms for more time in the water each day.
