⚠️ Our Take

What it’s actually like

Fuvahmulah is a proper dive destination, not a resort holiday — tiger sharks on almost every dive, up close and shallow, but no overwater bungalows, patchy Wi-Fi and little to do on non-dive days. If diving is the reason you’re going, it’s one of the best trips available. If it isn’t, look elsewhere.

18 countries, this is unlike anywhere else. Four tiger sharks on the first dive. Room was basic but I couldn’t care less — I came to dive. The guides know the sharks by sight. Book it.

Diving was beyond expectation. Wi-Fi was terrible, food got repetitive after day four. If you come for the sharks, you will not leave disappointed.

Arrived alone, left with six new dive friends. The guide named every tiger shark we encountered — they’ve been tracking them for years. Small groups make a real difference here.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Do I really need Advanced Open Water?
AOWD is recommended with at least 30 logged dives. For the Tiger Shark dive, Open Water is accepted — but you must pass an in-water evaluation and follow guide instructions. The dive centre will check your log book on arrival.
Are tiger shark sightings guaranteed?
Tiger sharks are seen on the vast majority of dives year-round at Tiger Shark Point. The dive centre uses tuna heads to draw them in close. Sightings are about as consistent as any shark dive operation gets.
Is it safe to dive with tiger sharks?
Dives happen in shallow water (5–15m) with experienced guides monitoring shark behaviour throughout. No touching, no gloves (except tiger shark dives), no flash photography. DAN dive insurance is mandatory for all divers.
What’s the schedule on a typical dive day?
3 dives per day: one Tiger Shark dive and two reef dives, all in the morning. Departure from Fuvahmulah harbour. Snacks on board. Exact timings shared via WhatsApp one day before. Surface interval of 1 hour between dives.
Is Nitrox available?
No. All dives are on air. Plan your repetitive dives accordingly.
Can I bring my own dive gear?
Yes. The team will carry, wash and set up your gear daily. Equipment rental: $30/day or $5/item per dive. No flash during tiger shark dives.
How do I get to Fuvahmulah?
Fly to Malé (MLE), then take a domestic Maldivian Airlines flight to Fuvahmulah (FVM) — approximately 1hr 25min. Luggage: 25kg checked + 5kg hand carry. Return domestic flight included in all packages.
What’s the cancellation policy?
21–15 days before arrival: 30% charge. 14–7 days: 50% charge. 6–0 days / no-show: 100% charge. Date changes subject to availability. All cancellations must be confirmed in writing.
What additional costs should I budget for?
Green Tax: $6/person/night. TGST: 17%. Service charge: 10%. Equipment rental: $30/day. Extra dives: $65 each. Private tiger shark guide (1:1): $350. ATMs dispense Rufiyaa only — bring USD.
What are the group discount options?
Groups of 7+ get 1 place free (7+1 FOC). Return guest discounts available. Custom packages open to request. Contact us for B2B and group rates.
What cultural rules apply on the island?
Modest dress required in public (shoulders and knees covered). Bikinis only permitted on boats or designated spots. No alcohol on the island. Photography: always ask locals before photographing them.
