Rasdhoo is a small atoll just off Ari Atoll in the Maldives. At first light, scalloped hammerheads rise from deep water off its outer reef, and divers wait for them in the blue. It’s usually one special dive on a central atolls week, not a whole route, so the boat and the week matter.

Hammerheads are seen at Rasdhoo all year, but sightings depend on current, visibility and luck. Most mornings you see one or a few, not a school, and some mornings none. The dive starts at first light and goes deep, so it’s for Advanced divers only.

FAQ

Rasdhoo Hammerhead Questions

When can I see hammerheads at Rasdhoo?
All year, on early-morning dives. Sightings depend on current, visibility and luck, so they’re never guaranteed.
How deep is the hammerhead dive?
It’s a deep blue-water dive, often below 25 m. You stay within your certification limits, and your guide sets the maximum depth. Nitrox helps on the dives that follow.
What experience do I need?
Advanced Open Water and comfort in open water with no reef below you. Send us your certification and dive count, and we’ll check with the boat.
Will I see a school of hammerheads?
Usually you see one or a few hammerheads, sometimes more. Large schools are possible but rare, so it’s best to go with modest expectations.
Which liveaboards visit Rasdhoo?
Rasdhoo is often part of central atolls weeks, but not always. We check the plan for your boat and dates before you book.
What else can I see nearby?
Grey reef sharks and eagle rays at Rasdhoo Madivaru, and the pinnacles of North Ari, like Maaya Thila and Fish Head.
