The Similan Islands sit about 70 km off the west coast of Thailand, in the Andaman Sea. Giant granite boulders above and below the water make swim-throughs and arches, and the east side has easy, colourful reefs. It’s one of the most popular first liveaboards in Asia. The national park is only open from 15 October to 15 May.

FAQ

Similan Islands Liveaboard Questions

When can I dive the Similan Islands?
The national park is open from 15 October to 15 May. It closes the rest of the year, so all liveaboards run inside that window.
Are the Similans good for beginners?
Yes. Many sites on the east side are calm and shallow, so Open Water divers are welcome. Sites with current, like Elephant Head Rock, are easier with more experience.
How long are Similan liveaboard trips?
From 3 to 6 nights. Short trips cover the Similans, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock. Longer trips add more dives in the north.
Can I see mantas and whale sharks?
Yes, sometimes. Mantas are most often seen at Koh Bon and whale sharks around Richelieu Rock, mostly from February to April. Sightings are never guaranteed.
Where do trips leave from?
Most leave from Khao Lak, about an hour north of Phuket International Airport (HKT). We confirm the pier and transfer for your dates.
How warm is the water?
Around 27–29°C. A 3 mm wetsuit or shorty is usually enough.
