24-29°C year-round. A 3mm wetsuit covers the warmer months; a 5mm is the safer call Dec-Mar when upwelling cools the water for the tiger and hammerhead season.

Open Water covers Tiger Harbour. AOWD, or Deep and Currents specialties, is the practical minimum for hammerheads, mantas and the outer-wall sites.

Tiger sharks are present year-round, so there’s no wrong month for the headline species. December to April is the strongest all-round window — calmer seas, 20-40m visibility, and overlap with hammerhead season. March to May adds oceanic mantas, and January to May can bring whale sharks. The trade-off is that Dec-Apr is also the busiest and priciest period, so May-Nov suits divers prioritising tiger sharks and threshers on a quieter, cheaper trip.

March to May is the peak window for oceanic (black) mantas at Fuvahmulah’s outer-reef sites. Fuvahmulah accounts for roughly 90% of the Maldives’ black manta sightings, making this a genuinely different manta experience from the cleaning-station reef mantas found elsewhere in the country.
What wetsuit thickness do I need in Fuvahmulah?
Water runs 24-29°C across the year. A 3mm wetsuit is comfortable for most divers in the warmer months (roughly May-Nov), while a 5mm is the safer choice December to March, when cooler upwelling water arrives alongside the tiger shark and hammerhead season.
When can I see whale sharks in Fuvahmulah?
