Is it safe to dive with tiger sharks in Fuvahmulah?
Fuvahmulah’s tiger shark centres run with trained shark-safety guides, low guide-to-diver ratios, and a strict feeding protocol — bait is placed under rocks on the seabed rather than handed out, and guides retreat during any feeding to keep divers positioned safely. The local dive community has an established safety record, though tiger sharks are large predators and divers should follow every briefing point exactly.
Do I need Advanced Open Water certification to dive Fuvahmulah?
Open Water is enough for Tiger Harbour, which sits at 8-10m. For thresher sharks, hammerheads and the outer wall, AOWD (or Deep and Currents specialties) is the practical minimum, since those sites run deeper and with stronger current.
When is the best time to see hammerhead sharks in Fuvahmulah?
December to April is the strongest window, with sightings most likely around the new moon and full moon, when cooler water pushes up onto the outer wall. Hammerheads are the least predictable of Fuvahmulah’s five signature species, so building a few dives at the outer wall into your schedule improves your odds.
Can you drink alcohol in Fuvahmulah?
